The processes of human ageing involve morphological alterations of the articular structures with consequent functional impairment. There are few reports on temporomandibular joint (TMJ) changes inherent in human ageing processes. The present study aims to morphologically study the anatomical alterations of articular discs of TMJs of 4 human cadavers, males older than 50 years, previously frozen. The specimens were obtained by exposing the joint capsule followed by an incision in the joint eminence of the temporal bone and dissection of the articular ligaments, thus exposing the articular disc. The disk was delicately manipulated by means of Dietrich tweezers for the separations of the structures inserted therein. The discs presented a mean of 24.63 mm and an average spine thickness of 4.59 mm. Perforations were observed in 3 articular discs (37.5%) compatible with the reports in the literature, and 5‐part …
